Vacation
We recently spent three weeks in Oregon visiting family. We stayed with Grandma Shelley and Keith, and Gabriel had a wonderful time exploring their house, eating blueberries, tayberries and strawberries out in the yard, and watching cars. While we were there, Gabriel developed a passionate interest in cars. Almost as soon as he woke up each morning (at about 5-5:30 am) he would point to the front window and ask "Car?" and we would open the blinds and watch the early morning traffic go by. Sometimes the passing cars were so thrilling, they would ellicit squeals of joy and physical exclamations. And riding in the car "go car" was always relished. It was adorable to watch. The other thing he wanted to do a lot was go outside. He'd play on the deck, arranging chairs, pushing cars, or exploring the stairs (!) All this exploration did result in more bumps, scrapes and bruises than he'd had since he was learning to walk. One day alone resulted in two bumps on his forehead. Other mischief included: locking himself in the guest bathroom, hiding things in the copper pots in the kitchen, trying to play with Ruby the same way he plays with Daddy, falling off the deck, climbing into Val's pool fully dressed, dumping out Val's outside water bucket and splashing around her inside water, playing in the toilet water, repeated attempts at cupboard dismemberment and a trip to the emergency room which was more precaution that necessity for a head wound that bled. All in all, it was a fun trip. Gabriel seemed to grow and evolve a lot in those three weeks, and though we've been home for a week, he still seems sure that he will see cars from our window and regularly wants up to see for himself. Alas, all he sees are backyards. But he does notice airplanes now, even when i don't! And at least he can see those from our window. Thank you everyone in Oregon for hosting us, and for your patience. It's all love!
